Circle of Michael Dahl (1659-1743) – Oval portrait of an aristocratic wigged Gentleman wearing an Indian silk and cravat scarf in oil on canvas

£1,895.00

Frame: 32″ by 36″ tall Canvas: 24″ by 29″
Circa Late 17th / Early 18th Century oil in oval gilt frame.
Provenance: Fine local family estate. We do not definitively know the identity of the sitter, but we have an interesting family heritage trail leading to high Society.
(The large wigs denoted the sitters importance and status, the larger the wig – the higher the status, this led to the term “big-wig”. The choice of their outfit continued this thought process, thus one often finds the use of the finest silks which were even sometimes known to have been hired out by the artists studio.)
