This superb clock movement has survived in good original condition for some 320 Years and it has been left alone!
It required just a gentle clean and new gut lines.
11″ Square dial with winged cherub spandrels. The date aperture has the “Tompion” three crowns motif.
The profusely marquetry inlaid case is walnut with an array of show woods, set with a classical theme of flowers (Tulip bulbs were reputed to have been worth a small fortune!)
Barley-sugar twist capitals to the hood and “Dutch” marquetry following the trend from the Continent, this would have been the height of fashion in London.
All in all a rare piece that one does not come across too often these days.
