Fine 19th Century gilded bird wall mirror with Chippendale frets and inlaid with a satinwood shell
£495.00
26″ wide by 43″ tall
The gilded bird wall mirror has origins way back to the 18th Century and the classical decoration from the Orient. The “ho-ho” bird was a mystical creature of good fortune and prosperity, and in Georgian American versions the bird became a federal Eagle.
The inlaid shell also has a deeper meaning, Gentlemen collected shells and ladies sewed, had they the time not to labour.
Old mirror plate glass which has some spotting.
