This large and well detailed watercolour offers a glimpse into the 19th Century cottage interior, with stoneware jugs, onion wine bottles, candlesticks, furniture and all the agricultural implements necessary for life in the rural habitat. The young lady darning is someone we see quite a lot in Smythe's paintings, probably a relative.
