The Family of porcelain manufacture known as “Fukami” – “Founded by Fukami Obasen, one of the Koreans who came to Japan in the train of Hide-Yoshi’s generals have origins in Arita, Japan way back to the 16th Century. But they employed no marks on their wares until the time of Fukami Sumi-No Suki, one of the founders of the Seji-sha. Sumi-No Suki developed great skill of porcelain decorated in the blue sous couverte. Excellent quality pieces are to be found and they bare the mark “made by Toshikian Kiso”. He died in 1886 and was succeeded by his younger brother Fukami Takeji.”
