Incredible pair of large early adzed and carved solid oak (tree trunk!) male and female figures, possibly 18th Century or earlier, “removed from 17 Arlington St. London” seat of the 2nd Earl of Yarborough
£1,275.00
Provenance: 17 Arlington Street, Westminster, was the residence of Charles Anderson-Pelham, 2nd Earl of Yarborough. Reputed to have housed an impressive art collection, including being an early patron of Turner. Who knows what these pieces may have witnessed, they have great patina.
The pair of pillars were part of the carved room decoration, either fireplace surrounds or large newel posts. They appear to be robed figures, possibly a Queen and scholarly man.
