A superb and rare William III walnut and floral marquetry inlaid longcase clock with eight day movement and front glass lenticle by Jonathan Lownds of Pall Mall, London, Circa 1695-1700, from one of the highest ranks of British clock makers

Born in 1657 Lownds was recorded at the Pall Mall address from around 1693 until 1702. Most notable museums have examples by him in their collection.
The dial with early “cherub spandrels” flanked by barley-sugar twist columns, the case is in remarkable sleepy condition considering its early vintage.
Classic floral marquetry, probably depicting tulips which were worth a small fortune in times past.
Surviving carved cherub cresting cornice of note as most are missing.
All in all a rare example of the period and in good working order.
